Sobre Mark
I'm a biochemistry graduate from the University of British Columbia with three years of hands-on research experience in professional cancer research labs. I've worked on real projects including CRISPR gene editing, CAR cell therapy development, and cancer drug studies, so I understand biology at a level that goes well beyond what's covered in school curricula.
I've also trained and supervised other researchers in the lab, so explaining complex techniques and concepts clearly is something I do naturally. I'm not a career tutor, which is actually an advantage. I explain things the way a scientist would: directly, without unnecessary jargon, and focused on what actually matters. Students tend to find that concepts they've been confused about for a long time click pretty quickly once they're explained from a different angle.
I'm available, responsive, and genuinely invested in whether you understand the material. If something isn't working, I'll change the approach until it does.

I have three years of research experience in molecular biology and cancer research at BC Cancer and BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, working on CRISPR knock-ins, CAR cell therapy, flow cytometry, and drug synergy studies. I'm a UBC biochemistry graduate heading to UC Berkeley for a Master's in Bioprocess Engineering in the fall.
My classes are built around actually understanding the material, not just memorising it. Most students get lost in biology because the connections between concepts are never made clear. I focus on building that understanding from the ground up, using real examples from lab work to make abstract topics like cell signalling, gene expression, and molecular biology make sense in practice.
Sessions are completely adapted to you, your syllabus, your pace, and what you're stuck on. All lessons are online via video call, works best as 60 to 90 minutes.
